Since v26 (2025 Wave 1), a clear, staged path applies to many scenarios: for a cloud migration, your on-prem solution has to be brought up to at least v25. In addition, v26 is a stepping-stone release, i.e. direct jumps across several major versions are restricted. Depending on the case, a short introduction to using it may be needed. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conclusion: technically attractive if downtime is to be minimised and the full legacy history is to be carried over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"kt-adv-heading993717_6e58c2-3c wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading993717_6e58c2-3c\">Providers on the standard Microsoft path<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pros:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uses the standard upgrade path<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cons:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cutover downtime is inherent to the approach: the data upgrade disconnects every session, and replication is not permitted afterwards &#8211; a one-way street.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For BC Online \/ SaaS the OnPremise system has to be at least v25 -&gt; possibly additional intermediate steps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most expensive option (usually between 50,000 and 150,000 EUR)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conclusion: if a long downtime and high costs are not an issue, this route is an acceptable option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"kt-adv-heading993717_88b359-43 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading993717_88b359-43\">Specifics you should not ignore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cloud migration only from v25 &#8211; before the move to the cloud you have to update to v25; v26 acts as a stepping-stone release.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data upgrade = maintenance window &#8211; whichever provider you use, clients are disconnected until the step is finished; going back and replicating again is not provided for. A classic one-way street.
